Old problem-ATI chipset- new solution ?

Hello,On my motherboard I have a ATI(RS482) Radeon Xpress 200 chip(I have a 2.2 Mhz AMD CPU) Now my pc is only able to recognize 64o X480 rez after having installed XWindows(before that I had 320 by 280 (?) thus.. On ATI homepage they have ATI Catalyst Display driver v 9.2 for Lnux - automated installer and Display drivers for Xorg 6.7 till 7.4 It also requires POSIX shared memory to be enabled on the system http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/index.aspx There CLICK on LINUX (32-bit- my pc),then in the 2nd column on Integrated motherboard and in the 3rd column on XPress Radeon 200 and on GO The release date of this all in one driver(s) (close to 80 mb) is 2/20/2009 Now Synaptic refuses to install it as well as apt-get... NOTES- 64 Studio is the only Linux system that will work on this pc..(all the other ones have failed(of course Windows XP did work:Ubuntu,etc..even Debian v 5.0 Debian 5.0 is buggy-it kills my monitor(cuts off its power) ,will not recognize DHCP,etc...;also just one CD(#1) is NOT enough as you need CD#1 and #2,minimum...
