Libraw1394 in Beta 3.0 - modprobe raw1394 will not load module

I have done the steps to install ffado on the 3.0 beta. Installation is smooth once all dependancies are solved, but the one problem I run into is that I cannot get the firewire connection to run. libraw1394-8 was installed using synaptic, but somehow I cannot load the ra1394 driver. The result of my attempts is: $ sudo modprobe raw1394 FATAL: Module raw1394 not found. What gives? I cannot find anything relevant to solve the problem on ubuntu or debian forums. Thanks for your help.

tried a quick upgrade finally

HI, I finally (was out of town) did give it a quick try by adding the repo, then trying to install the ffado packages. All of them did except for: Unpacking libffado-dev (from .../libffado-dev_2.0~rc2+svn1569-1_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libffado-dev_2.0~rc2+svn1569-1_i386.deb (--unpack): short read in buffer_copy (backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/include/libffado/ffado.h') Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/libffado-dev_2.0~rc2+svn1569-1_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) A package failed to install. Trying to recover. I figured I may have missed a step, e.g. installing your patched kernel. So I went on to see what apt-get dist-upgrade would say, and it said: The following packages will be REMOVED: 64studio ardour freewheeling jack-rack jackd jamin libjackserver-bin meterbridge timemachine The following packages will be upgraded: libjack0 libjack0.100.0-0 libjackserver I did not proceed. What should be my next step? Thanks again for your help.

I try to keep every single package I download, especially for occurrences like this one. Seems that I lost the some of the jack packages though. I am setting up a rebuildd server at home to see if I can recreate the files, or the problem on the main backports server. The FFADO packages are built against the missing jackd - go figure! Will keep you posted.

well, thanks anyway

Don't thank me just yet... Ran into trouble sourcing the packages. I really don't like trying to retrace steps that does not want to be retraced. Bit more time please ;-)

thanks!

I have built a kernel for myself that supports the old firewire stack, and it is available on my personal repository. deb http://apt.harleystudio.co.za/ hardy main I am also addin the ffado files I just backported to it, with some jackd files. Should be up in a couple of hours. Cheers, Quentin

I've upgraded to: 2.6.29-1-multimedia-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Tue May 26 16:51:11 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux Does this kernel support IEE1394, and if so, are there any ffado packages available? All the best, Sava

IEE1394 is not supported by the current kernel because it was not compiled in the correct way. I am currently working on an easy to follow way to build the kernel correctly, and will make the results available on my personal apt repository. That said, I am having some difficulty to configure the kernel at the moment, but I need this functionality by the end of next week, so I will make it work as soon as I can... Cheers, Quentin

The current 2.6.29-rc-RT kernel has an experimental firewire stack enabled, that breaks FFADO. This will be rectified as we have the final 2.6.29-RT kernel, and that is very soon by the look of things... Cheers, Quentin
