The future of Gnome: update

Question is: how will this change the way we do things in the studio world..were would the jack system tray applet go? where is the multi-desktops? how much resource does this chew up? If synaptics would quit wanting to remove libfam0 when i try to install Xfce4, i'd switch now so i can start getting use to that...
