3.0 beta USB-wireless device Netgear WG111

hi folks, i have poblems getting my wireless-device to work. acording to this link, ndiswrapper isn't needed anymore: http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=3614 so i downloaded the "USB 2nd generation (ISL3887)" firmware from here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/p54#firmware the problem is, i don't undestand the "enable mac80211"-part. where do i have to do this. i have two of that devices, one is WG111v2 and the other WG111v3. when i plu the v3 the light is going on, pluging the v2 i have no light. but in Knetworkmanager the device doen't appear. can anybody help me out? thanks

thanks jonathan i found out that the problem was with WEP. changed to WPA and now it works. i have v1.62. i don't now what happend before, because i wasn't unable even to connect without encryption. than i played around with the settings (just like u wrote now, i switched to dhclient) and it worked. stange is now i swiched back to "auto" and it still works. thank you for wanting to help

Hi, what version of wicd are you using? 159? 162? I had this problem with internal wirelesss card on my laptop on my last beta install but that was with 1.5.9. Now I am using 1.6.2 You might check out the other thread here about WICD since many WICD users have this issue. This new version is better. What I have done so far is just delete some entries from /etc/network/interfaces after the first 2 lines. I also had to add wlan0 in the prefs as an interface, but you are already past that since you are stuck like many at DHCP. Other remedies are changing from dhclient to dhcpd as your system dhcp (done in synaptic easily) and then in wicd prefs changing dhcp from auto to one of these methods though auto is recommended. Once running wicd from dock, I disconnect all then refresh and then connect. I use to get the hangs waiting for an address, but now its working fine since I have been checking various places for wifi. Hope this helps! jonathan adams leonard
