Hi all, running 64Studio 2.1, these last 2 days pc reboots without warning. All the times it appears, only Jack and Ardour are running. Rest of jobs never provide any boot, just Ardour and Jack. Kernel is 2.6.21-1-multimedia486, Jackd is 0.116.1 with Qjackctl 0.3.4, Ardour is 2.7.1(4296). Maximum session time before reboot is around 15 minutes, sometimes I just launch the session, select a track, double click on its insert, move any cursor in the insert settings popup, and then reboot come. HELP ! Any advice will be really appreciate, any "see what this log says" will be really welcome, Please, Fred

Ahhh Desktop manager issues... Makes perfect sense. Good news: You can fix it. Back up your home folder and reinstall 64 Studio. Bad news: You can fix it. Back up your home folder and reinstall 64 Studio. I have not played with different managers yet, except for a brief flirtation with Beryl on Gnome... Which does not count. I am enjoying excellent stability out of my gnome based system, and as such I would unfortunately not be of any help ;-) Cheers, Q

Hi Fred. Reboots like the ones you are describing can be related to any number of things, especially since it was running for so long without issues. Hardware. I would start looking at the RAM. Do a comprehensive ram test, using a tool like SystemRescueCD The next culprits are the hard drives and the motherboard. Look for leaky caps on the board... Another issue could be the processor itself that developed a heat dependant problem. Check the processor temperature, and if it runs too high, check your processor heatsink for conductive paste, and make sure the fan is clean and running. Last but not least, it could be the PSU that is giving out. It might be dirty, and cannot carry the load of a MM Pc without heating up. Software Did you compile, install, backport ANYTHING before the problems started? I have seen wierd things creep in when installing a bleeding edge package, causing failures that seem very unrelated to the actual package installed... Hope it helps, Quentin

Hi Quentin, Thanks for replying, don't think hard is in cause here : have compile and install from differents repos a really lot... All this to try to save some CPU% here and there, to keep they for Ardour. Have 2 partitions running differents Linux, at this time they are both "ill", but differents problems. The other one never boot, just Ardour is unable to play again when you have pressed stop... Anyway, this said let's concentrate on soft for my 64 Studio system ! I suspect the try to use Fluxbox instead of Gnome is guilty for this boots. Don't said it at first, to not influence answers (thinking about it now, it was not a good idea, cause make you loosing your time to think and write about HW... sorry for that) So, now I have uninstall Fluxbox, but Gnome is not in the same state than before. The main menu don't have the Gnome logo but the Debian one, and don't have the halt button no more. Have modify so much on the system that I think the best is probably to format. .. Or, is it possible to "reset to initial state" all settings made since first boot after install, have googled a while around this concept, but can'f find it. Maybe uninstall all Gnome and reinstall (this sounds like a windowsTM tip...))). I don't know, so wish ask you : What would be your suggestion Quentin ? Thanks again, Fred EDIT : I realize that I said reboot, but in fact it is closing session, and ask to log in Debian window...

to be complete...
