64studio - too many input/output connections in JACK

Hello I am using jack control to start and stop jack. I am using a M-AUDIO DELTA 44 soundcard, which has 4 ins and 4 outs. I have selected this card in the setup page, and it works fine with all my software. However in the connections page it shows 12 ins and 12 outs, 8 too many. I wouldn't worry about the excess channels. On the input side you can't use more channels than the physical four the breakout box has, but you have to remember that Jackd is a virtual plug-in layer. It means that you can route audio in and out software sources in the system . All *nix systems - as Linux is - have the ability to launch several instances of a program within the limits of accessible memory. Just try how many instances of zynaddsubfx you can have while loading a MIDI file in Rosegarden - it makes some interesting sounds.. Just go with default channel settings in qjackctl and use the ones you need. Delta 44 is one those rare soundcards that have excellent performance in Linux. I use it too.
