Anyone have printer problems?!?

Hi all, i can't seem to load my HPDeskjet 843c printer. The cups manager is loading gutenprint 842c drivers. could it be i need the 843c driver? it fails to detect the printer as well. any thoughts? dav=-0

For some reason a printer that gave me no trouble in version 1.4, is failing to work in version 2.0. I've used the installer given on samsung.com. And then tried the manual way (installing cupsys and foomatic). For some reason the installer works, but print jobs do not make it to the printer, whichever way I try it. Any suggestions? Yep- That's got it. took all of ten minutes. last time i got a used printer and tried to install it in XP it took a couple of hours... That was a while ago, but this is a revelation for me! Linux is just so much easier and better than it used to be. and the users of this forum are pretty groovy as well! Thanx a million!

The 843c is a well supported printer: http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet_843C You should use the hpijs driver for this model, although the gutenprint driver can probably be made to work. Make sure you have all these packages installed: http://packages.debian.org/etch/hpijs http://packages.debian.org/etch/hplip http://packages.debian.org/etch/hpijs-ppds You can install all these via Synaptic if you have an Etch repository enabled.
