Hello, I'm planning to switch to Linux for music production... I'm going to use Reaper (http://reaper.fm). As i understand, VST and VSTi will work ok under 64Studio, so i want to ask about my hardware - Mainboard - ASUS P5B CPU - Core 2 Duo e6300 RAM - 2GB DDR2 Kingston 667 mhz Soundcard - ESI Juli@ thanks

I agree with Quentin

I think once you try out the native Linux programs already bundled in 64 Studio, you will see that there isn't any real need to run Windows programs under Wine. Not to mention the fact that Windows programs running under Wine don't run at their full normal speed since they're running under an emulator (or virtual environment). As I always tell people, for every "useful" Windows program out there, I have a native Linux program that will allow me to achieve the exact same end result. I specify the word "useful" because the only Windows programs out there that I don't have a Linux equivalent for are the hoards of Windows viruses and spyware.

Should be OK

For VST be sure to download the 32bit version... Your hardware looks like it should support either version. Reaper is a Windows app, do you want to run it in wine? Just checked, there are many how-to documents to set it up. Don't try this on 64bit version yet, because of the 32-64bit incompatibility from wine. Do check out Rosegarden and Ardour 2.1 that comes with the distro. I use Ardour almost exclusively for our studio sessions. Go for it, and let us know how it went! Cheers
