A quick search turned this up. http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Speech-Recognition-HOWTO.html I haven't tested it yet but I have been thinking about VR for a while. I used Dragon Dictate a decade ago with mixed results. There is mention of a Linux free version of IBM's Via Voice. That should work.
