Please help me again.. Its all too complicated :-(

hi all, i have 2 decks through a standard mixer, the mixer levels are adjusted by me to sit at 0 what i want to do (before using any sound control) is to look at the raw input to check that my mixer is correct, ie see that the raw input levels are correct? the apps on the 64 studio dont seam to let me? they want to alter the input levels not showing me the true input level? im using ardour to record mixes and its great, i just want to set the input and output levels correctly and i cant if i dont know what they are raw? please can anyone help. regards barks

gnome/alsa mixer and soundcard /// jack

The sound level of the inputs and outputs are not the same in jack and on the sound card. I think you can use the alsamixer or the gnome mixer to set the level of i/o of your soundcard. if it is a RME hdps, you jave to use the RME hdspmixer app to do so and see. What is your sound card ? Toine

Can't you see that in the ardour mixer? The input and output levels are displayed. Or else, you have meterbridge in Sound and Video. You have to start JACK first. From console you have more options: ~$meterbrigde -t xx alsa_pcm:playback_1 alsa_pcm:playback_2. Where xx can be dpm, ppm, vu and more. You might have to connect the capture inputs to the meter (jack connections). Take a look at http://plugin.org.uk/meterbridge/ Also, Envy 24 Control and (I suppose) HDSPMixer show the levels but they are not applicable if you are not using certain audio cards.
