Alidh, it seems you have installed the debian lenny (testing) kernel, which certainly is not patched for rt.
The backport packages Quentin refers to are packages in the 64studio testing repository which are not in debian etch but the maintainers of 64studio have added to the 64studio testing repository, knowing that they are not messing things up. You don't have to worry about it because they are supposed to work and you can install them as you install any other package. But as Quentin has told you, 64studio is based in Debian etch so unless you know what you are doing, you shouldn't have the debian lenny repository in your /etc/apt/sources.list or /etc/apt/sources.list.d/64studio.list. Comment that out. But it is OK if you have the 64 studio testing repository and the debian etch one.
If you want to know the origin of the packages, in Synaptic you can arrange them by origin (see the buttons in the bottom left corner).
As a linux user, not very knowledgeable about computers or how the system works, I prefer to have a partition with a reliable distro and keep to their directions and recommendations, and have another partition to experiment with other OS's.
Cheers!
Pablo
I have succesfully compiled a 2.6.24-rc5 kernel after patching it against Ingo Molnar's rt-patches. Those patches can be found from
www.kernel/pub/people
I used a 64Studio .config as base for compilation and made it into a Debian-type .deb-package with make-kpkg. It's a working kernel - in fact i'm just running it..
Sound: works
net: works
No hiccups or kernel-oops so far..
Mmmm I'm think I've have a pretty mixed up 64studio testing/ etch | Debian testing system...
What is whisdom... A mixed up system etch/ lenny is not preferable...
New install?
Or is there is list with the packages which are installed in a 'normal' 64studio? Than I can use the packages in Debian lenny...
Advice in this is welcome...
Thanks, still some questions:
1.But that 22 is not a multimedia kernel is it? I can't find such a kernel (22) with multimedia in the name...
2. How can I install backport packages?
Alidh, it seems you have
