Hey everybody, I did my last project with Ubuntu studio and I was not very happy with Ardour 2.0 - I had lots of crashes. I am not very good in compiling, so I am urgently waiting for 64studio 2.1 - I see it is late, but do you know approxmatly how long it will be late? Thomas

I still can't install 64Studio 2.1 testing iso, downloaded on the link you provided. The installer hangs on the very beginning, on my firewire adapter, this time. Toine

I have a similar problem, relating to my Canon printer. I need the latest versions of the gimp-print engine to make it work, but the dependencies pulled in broke some other packages. Therefore I also compile it myself at the moment. Please log in to the development site, and log a ticket for the inclusion of your package. Perhaps yours will not cause as much trouble as mine. Cheers,

just wanted to tag onto the end of this 2.1 thread... any chance we'll see an updated hplip/hpijs ? My HP printer requires a pretty recent version. I've rebuilt hplip 2.7.10 on 64studio 2.0 just fine, but it would be nice to see it included in the distribution ;)

pre,9.iso test by newbie

Hi everybody, My name's Robb and I posted here last summer about SATA related install problems. The most sage piece of advice I got was to grab an IDE drive, and many months later, here I am. Installed 2.0 DVD and upgraded to Stable with pretty good results, (some Ardour issues, but I'm only one of many, it seems), but otherwise a solid system. Tried the upgrade path to Testing and had many of the same issues listed on this forum, (broken packages, dependencies, etc.) Upgraded to pre 9 (via Synaptic),which seemed to cure all that, however some new devilry surfaced. In a Root Terminal, Gedit behaves very badly, ie: hangs if I try to open a file with the "Open" button, it will however open a file if I type the path, but it hangs on "Save" or "Save As". Other weirdness I can remember is "gdmsetup" will not start and a couple of other command-line things that escape me at the moment. Note that FootMenu/Desktop/Admin/Services works. I then visited this fine forum, downloaded the test iso, which installed nicely(on an IDE drive, flunked SATA on my system)though there does seem to be an issue with the splash screen (which stays on for a minute or so, or 'til you start Jack) but with exactly the same results,(Gedit, gdmsetup etc.issues),but I do have access to "Services". Here's something of possible interest. In a fit of curiousity (or stupidity) In Synaptic, I enabled Testing, disabled Stable and left the Etch repos),ran tasksel --new-install, and ended up with a lot of crap on my system I don't want,(Gnome games,Epiphany,Alacarte, etc.), BUT now Gedit, gdmsetup, etc works!!! However,FootMenu/Desktop/Admin/Services brings up only a partial list of services and it hangs if I try to turn something on or off. "Software Updates" pops up, and I say "Why not?" 14 packages later I'm back to the original problem.(services work, but not command line) The packages causing strangeness seem to be "gnome-desktop-environment" + "libgnomevfs2-extra",if they're installed I get command line but no services, and vice-versa if they're not. I must remind you at this point of my newbieness, so I don't really know if this is a legit bug, it does seem to be strange enough to pass on. And, in case you're wondering, 1) Yes, I did run md5sum and 2) I ran the whole procedure (install, tasksel...etc...) a couple of times with the same results. Finally,(!!!) I should mention that other than the above mentioned stuff the system seems fine, though I haven't really stressed it out yet. I'll let you know. Hope this wasn't a waste of your time. good to be back

Ardour 2.3

I have found the same unfortunately last night. Found a workaround for my problem, but I believe Ardour 2.3 might not be ready for 64studio 2.1 This is very unfortunate because 2.3 brings some nice editing features, some of which I got used to already. Reptile, did you check if a ticket has been opened on the Ardour site? If not, report your problems to them. Cheers,

I have compiled my own

I have compiled my own Ardour 2.3 and find that it can be regularly upset. I have also tested this with Ubuntu Studio , so I don't think it's either 64studio or US' fault but that Ardour has a lot of bugs right now that can cause it just to shut down. I have experienced regular crashes when batch importing wav files, so I had to do them 6 at a time or so instead of all at once. It has also crashed for other reasons but none that I can specifically remember to recreate.

Thanks for the tip, Quentin. Before spending bandwidth for nothing, I would like to be sure that the installer is updated so my sata disks could be recognized, and so I can really install 64Studio ? Toine

Testing testing...

The Testing testing, is called the Master iso, available here: http://apt.64studio.com/64studio/ But this one comes with an official warning: It will probably be just fine, giving you 64studio in it latest incarnation on it's testing repository... It might just not work because of something someone did very late last night... I have done this before, and it was ok. Just be sure to compare the md5sum of your downloaded file with the checksum on the page BEFORE you burn to disk, using your favourite DVD-iso burner. Good-speed!

Yes, the release will be a little late because of the Trinity and Transport projects (InDaMix) of Trinity Audio. These are mobile handheld devices running a mobile version of 64studio, and unfortunately kept Free very busy for a while. They are done now, and actively working on the 2.1 release. If you don't want to wait, you could get ardour 2.2 on the 64studio testing repository. It is quite good, and I completed most of a large project on it with no major hitches. Ardour 2.3 is much nicer though, and we'll let you know when Free has added it to 64studio's testing repository. Hopefully 64S 2.1 release is just arounf the corner now. Cheers,
