Help no dvd want to installI need some detailed advice. My friend wants 64 on his pc(we installed the latest Debian via net-install on it ). We have the DVD iso and can put it on that pc,that is how I install Slackware 12.0 on my laptop with no dvd mounted the iso. And I found this link " http://64studio.com/node/241 " I am new to the apt-get world so if we can to upgrade current system please advice me on how to do that (dummy style). Maybe mounting the ISO and somehow install from there maybe chroot or something along that lines. Or as the post mention install 1 then upgrade to 2. The pc is running fine with the new Debian but when I tried( have changed the list to 64 links) to "upgrade" or "install" comes up with errors like "64 themes not configed". I do not have the pc here and my friend lives far from me so I can not give the exact errors sorry. Thanks in advance

sources.list
You can find a copy of my sources.list here
http://apt.harleystudio.co.za/misc/aptsources.tar.gz
Unpack the file into /etc/apt as root
run in root terminal
# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
Hope it helps!
Thanks
Thanks,
I will try this and let you know. I tried something like that but the stuff I had in my my sources.list hopefully is wrong. :-)
I noticed that all stuff in the sources.list file was commented out via # and the 64studio.list file in sources.list.d had some that was not. Will apt-get know to use the 64 ones when I do the update and upgrade?
Thanks again I have sent my friend email with the info . Will know late tonight.
did not work
Had too may errors. We did a fresh install of Debian net install this time just base. Then got the key with
"wget -q -O - http://trac.64studio.com/64studio/browser/64studio/trunk/apt/key?format=raw|apt-key add -" info came from here "http://64studio.com/faq_user". Then follow the directions Quentin Harley gave us , using his sources.list. When my friend went to bed it was still installing seems like this time may work. Will find out tommorrow.
Thanks
i386 cd amd64 cd
air4time> Debian may work. Will find out tommorrow.
The Debian method should work ok, if not, here's another one.
Install 64studio-install_1.0.0_i386 cd. (or amd64). I have installed "i386" here.
http://cdd.64studio.com/releases/64studio/1.0/
# = root

# apt-get update

64studio 2.0... You are done...Stable...Reboot.

Use Stable for a while to make sure it's ok. Then.

If you want to try moving to to 64studio 2 testing!

# 64studio-upgrade
64studio 1.0 to 2 testing...
I Followed this Guide.

From your link.

did not work
I think the problem is 64 Studio is not installed so upgrade is not working. Get theme errors as well as errors installing 64 . A shame to cause sounds like we are right there. Boots up but has nothing but a term running after log in. Even has BG but can not do nothing out side of the term program. Can I reinstall all?
64studio_1.0_cd Upgrade to 2.0 Release
Hi,
If you have access to a cd-writer you can go here
http://cdd.64studio.com/releases/64studio/1.0/
Download &
Install 64studio-install_1.0.0_i386 cd. (or amd64).?
Once the install is complete login to your desktop open a terminal
su to root:
$ su
# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/64studio.list
deb http://apt.64studio.com/64studio/stable 64studio main
* Make sure 64studio stable is the only source enabled. *
gnome, xorg and libraries upgrade better
if they are not running during during the upgrade.
The upgrade "will" work from your desktop! A terminal is my choice.
When you have checked 64studio stable is the only source enabled.
Log out from your desktop, to the login screen.
typing [ctrl] + [alt] + [f1] will drop you into a terminal.
Login as root.
type:
# apt-get update
# 64studio-upgrade
The 64studio-upgrade will want to remove some packages
e.g. "firefox", this is fine, iceweasel will replace it.
I refused to accept bcm43xx-fwcutter,
after errors on first upgrade attempt.
I accepted the defaults to any questions. e.g.
bootsplash (Y/I/N/O/D) [default=N] ? I or Y [Enter]
See here.

Cheers,
dave.
Thanks
will do that in a few days and post here.
64studio 1.0
Is a rock solid release without any upgrades.
I upgraded twice, just to check it out.
Hope it goes ok for you, looking forward to your post.

Installation trouble
I bought a usb dvd burner a while back, and used it to install 64studio on an old laptop. You might want to look for a (still working) second hand one. It may ease the trouble of getting and installing 1.0, upgrading to 2.0 and only then upgrading to 2.1.
The upgrade procedure does work well now though, thanks to a lot of effort by Free. It is a viable option.
My 2c
a usb dvd burner
Sure would save a lot of work and time.
It is a big install/upgrade, took a few hours here.

The install/upgrade went very smooth here, and seemed very solid once it completed, I didn't have time to check out many things, but I was well happy with the result. The journey was a good lesson.
* 64studio-install_1.0.0_i386.iso 20-Jul-2007
Its still under a year old, when you think how old w2k/Xp are it's quite new.
But you have to consider how fast Linux is moving on.
you gotta luv linux.

If you choose the no GUI method [ctrl] + [alt] + [f1]
As xorg upgrades and configures the screen "might" drop you back to the LogIn screen.
This does not mean the upgrade is complete, type:
[ctrl] + [alt] + [f1] again, and the verbose will continue to completion.
root@#
once you see root@# type:
# halt (or) shutdown -h now
to turn off the computer
See here.
