Spec - will my hardware make the cut for 64Studio
Hello everybody :)
First post and currently downloading 64Studio as I write. Recently my vid card went out on me and off to newegg I went to get a new one. So I figured this would be as good of a time as any to try out your distro. So what I want to know is based on my system specs, if anyone has any pre-install advice or nuggets of wisdom that can be passed along such as known latency issues with any of my hardware or showstoppers;
OS: Gonna be dual booting PCLinuxOS MiniMe 2008 & 64Studio 2.1 AMD64
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2
Vid: MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express
Ram: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
Mobo: ABIT KN9 ULTRA (Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra chipset)
Sound: currently using on-board (but eyeballing a m-audio Audiophile 2496 card)
HD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200 RPM SATA
PSU: Apevia ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply
NIC: Linksys WMP54G 32bit PCI2.2 Wireless-G Adapter
Monitor: Sceptre X9WG-NagaV Black 19" 8ms Widescreen HD Ready LCD Monitor
Mouse: Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
Keyboard: Kensington Comfort Type
On a side note I do have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 in a box that wasn't supported by Linux when I bought it.. but has anyone got this card running on their system with the drivers Creative FINALLY put out?

It works,

New hardware
- Your sound card: Onboard is ok for system beeps etc. but for pro sound you need a pro card. The Audiophile should be ok.
- The Nvidia card is not supported by the drivers included in 64studio at the moment. This is not a major problems though, as you will find that many 64 Studio users have this problem, and there is (by now) quite detailed work-arounds for this problem, involving the driver from the nvidia site.
When set up correctly (and with the new sound card) your system should work great
