installgui?
What is wrong with a few minutes of text based install? Takes you back to your roots! (me anyway)
Try hitting enter only.

Nothing wrong with text, I started with Xenix! (alas, I have forgotten almost all of it)
hitting enter boots the cd version, which looks good
install and enter gives me the same kernel error, should I re-download and burn a fresh disk at 4x (or something slower, the first one was burned at 24x)
Are you talking about the live cd...
You should use the installer DVD to install 64 Studio to the hard drive.
Sorry, no live CD installer at the moment.

So, if I want to run 64studio I have to get a DVD burner first? Is there a non-live .iso file that I missed that will work from CD?
DVD burner
I can go and buy a reasonable dvd burner for ZAR250 - about US$ 33. This is hardly expensive, and I am sure you will be able to get it for much cheaper where you are...
This is an investment... I mostly share files with musicians on DVD (they never return the flash drives...)
Cheers
PS....
The reason why we don't have an installer CD is that the iso for instaling 64 Studio is just too large for CD. Cannot make it smaller without loosing vital parts of the setup...
You could use the method involving a flash disk to boot the installer iso.
