MIDI latency, possibly after 2.1 upgrade

I've been using my 64studio system happily for several months. Lately I've noticed a problem where running MIDI through Alsa seems to incur a lot of latency. When playing notes on one of my keyboards, setting "local on" and also feeding the notes back to the same keyboard through the PC, I measured the latency at 30+ ms. It also seems to be irregular, which you can sense when playing back compositions through Rosegarden -- it just sounds like the notes run together sometimes. I'm using a MidiSport 8x8. Among the things I tested was playing through the MidiSport in "Thru Mode" versus USB mode, and did not have any problems there. The problem seems to lie somewhere between the MidiSport and the PC. Audio is fine. I upgraded to 64Studio 2.1 a few weeks ago, and did not notice this problem before then. My kernel version is 2.6.21-1-multimedia-486. Anybody else experiencing this problem?

Just wanted to follow up on this issue. I had been putting off doing a fresh install from the 2.1 DVD, but finally got around to it today. The problem is gone.

The only time I ever go something similar was playing midi out of Rosegarden to Linux Sampler, using a free low quality piano sample I found on the web. When I played the exact piece of music with a different sample, it worked fine. Unfortunately I don't have a midi keyboard at the moment, and cannot test this for you.

I'm experience significant audio delays when triggering midi sounds (particularly FluidSynth sound fonts via DSSI) when tracking midi notes. The midi notes gets recorded properly, but as I am tracking, I can't hear my notes sound when another note is sounding. On midi playback, it works great. Any ideas?
