Just switched to 64 studio on my new lappy...

Hi chaps, I have to say that I have just installed 64studio and so far i likey. I have a "new" lappy and have been trying out a few different distros to see which one to use for the studio. I'm looking to sync the lappy to my Tape machine so I can use MIDI stuff. I haven't fully put it through it's paces yet but so far it's looking really solid. I have had issues with other distros with acpi. I haven't been able to boot any "cutting edge" kernels without switching off acpi... till now. But looking at the kernel for 64 studio I see it is and older one. are there any plans for using a newer kernel, and is it likely that a newer kernel is the cause of my little problem? Also I'm hoping to be able to use my M-audio duo USB. It has worked straight off the bat with the latest ubuntu but I'm not sure if it will be the same with this older kernel. I guess I'll find out tonight. BTW I am using a Samsung R55 and I will post a full review of the installation for future reference. Have a pat on the back from me for now... more to come in the future i hope

Hi! The number of the running kernel is usually not a sign of something being seriously "outdated". Compiling a distro requires a lot of testing and research, so every distro always includes a slightly lower number kernel than the latest stable version at kernel.org. If you require the "hottest" and latest version of kernel, why not download the latest source package from kernl.org and compile a kernel to match your computer..? Well, anyways - make sure you patch the source with a matching RT-patch from Ingo Molnar's website to get the realtime performance you get with a 64Studio kernel. BTW, does anyone use the CK patch anymore? Con Kolivas left with a bang..
