I've had my eyes on the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R for some time. But this device won't work with Linux as I understand from different forums and other sources, http://www.64studio.com/node/695 amongst others It seems to be a rather good piece of equipment and fit well for my purposes. Do anyone know whether there are any ways to make it work or perhaps suggest a similar device?

Hi, alternative for M-audio Fast Track can be Zoom h4 http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h4/ It should works on linux like USB standard mass storage device. http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/89011 I am not sure if it is working like sound card too. Somebody just solving this on linuxaudio mailing list. Maybe check this mailing list first is good idea.\ Actually I am owner of older version of M-Audio Fast Track I can open it like USB standard mass storage device on my 64studio/Lenny mixed distro. I never tried to use it like sound card. Cheers mirami Asus M6Va,CPU 2GHz, RAM 2GB, 64studio 32bit 3.0 (pre1)

Hi, Spot on Quentin, M-Audio are going to shoot themselves in the foot here. Shame really their older cards seemed to work quite well. Echo Audiofire 4 : May 2007 SOS http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may07/articles/echoaudiofire4.htm http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/ Cheers, dave

M-Audio does not want to create linux drivers because of "limited resources" I actually believe it is because they don't want to leave their comfort zone, and this will now start to hurt them. If you are going to use 64 Studio (or any other linux OS) don't buy this. There are other devices that are supported: Check out the FFADO page: http://www.ffado.org/ While the latest ffado drivers are not included into 64 Studio as default, they will soon be - ticket opened. My suggestion would be one of the ECHO devices - they obviously see the potential of linux in the future of recording, and they should be rewarded by you, voting with your wallet.
