The fire-wire chipset type - is it important?

Hello, Is it true that some types of fire-wire chipsets are unsuitable for audio/midi data streaming and can't work with freebob? My laptop is Acer TM 4051 LMi and the fire-wire device details received from lspci -vvv, are: 01:00.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. IEEE 1394 Host Controller (rev 80) (prog-if 10 [OHCI]) Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0071 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping+ SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- SERR- Can you tell me if my laptop can work with freebob? All I've really heard is incompatibility with early revisions of the Ricoh chipset. Later revisions work fine with firewire. I've heard mixed reviews about VIA. You can find more answers by doing google searches.
