Installed 64Studio on a partition of my UbuntuStudio laptop. Acer Aspire 5520-5912, nvidia GeForce 7000M video. The install completed with no problems, but when I boot, after GRUB, the screen goes blank. The first time I waited a few minutes, then pressed the power button to turn it off, but after pressing it the 64 Studio splash screen came up. However, X would not start and I could only log in at the command prompt. I manually edited xorg.conf to use the vesa driver and rebooted. Still had to press power to continue, but I got into X. Installed nvidia drivers with Synaptic as well as nvidia-xconfig. Ran that and rebooted, and now I only get a black screen. So I'm back in UbuntuStudio for now. I really wanted to try 64Studio as I've heard good things about it. Any ideas?

what does your /etc/X11/xorg.conf looks like? What driver exactly is installed? Did you try something, that's written in the net, e.g. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/etch-black-screen-with-nvidia-drivers.-546388/? I had troubles with a NVidia and 64 Studio too, while the same NVidia was fine with Suse. At the moment I don't have a NVidia, but I'm going to buy some. Please report about the steps you do. Cheers, Ralf

Thanks for the link. I

Thanks for the link. I followed the steps in post #9 for the manual install and it worked. I still have the problem that after the grub menu the screen goes blank until I press the power button. Any ideas? It's not the splash screen, I already disabled that and it didn't help.
