After playing around with the ardour install (and failed)..i tried a fresh squeaky clean install..all is well. EXCEPT..when i used synaptics to upgrade, it will not let me install libdvdcss2 because libc6 is the wrong version...nor will it let me install the proper libc6 manually. not that i watch a lot of dvds on my system it's just that when something is broken it needs fixin' right? the version the the system is looking for is a lenny version libc6 2.7 but the studio has and only offers libc6 2.3...any ideas? thanks MiCK

LOL CD text is not used or accessible by some software and some drives. The important factors are:
  • ISRC codes
  • Track number
  • track lengths
You will probably find that the "bonus CD" has the same amount of tracks and same track lenghts. Because you did not add the correct ISRC codes, the ripper app looks at the next availabe data...

it works!...-whatthe?! K3B is fleetwood fan!

Hi Yes-same problem with a knoppix cd-r (no-go), but then boots fine with a studio64 dvd. So I get the feeling my dvd has a laser problem reading cds -I read somewhere that there two different lasers?I often get a "no medium found" error even when a cd is inside. Luckily I had an old cd-rw lying around,so I put her in and bingo!K3B was much happier. So I tested burning 4 tracks from an accoustic bluegrass band rehearsal, carefully filling the cd-text info and names of songs etc and hit burn... zoom zooom whizz whizz (seems to work) then after the smoke had cleared, soundjuicer happily reports that I have a "Blues again Bonus CD" by Mick Fleetwood with the 4 tracks named: Albatr...,Napili..,the Super... etc ...WHICH IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE! The music sounds ok but either K3B or soundjuicer have been smoking some bad peyote... oh well at least I can burn on this machine,-I tried backing up LZep2 and got a better (correct) titles display...weird

That is strange... CD does have a different pitch and track depth, and if you have lost your laser lense focus drive you might run into trouble like this... If you boot from a live-cd do you still have the same problem? Luckily these drives are real cheap nowadays, but that may in itself be part of the problem - Lower quality...

Not weak. Safe.

This 64 Studio distribution is brought to you free. In order to deliver the distro with the correct libraries, the 64 studio company would have to pay the organisations a per-unit fee for the amount of downloads to be on the safe side - Needless to say, it is not going to happen.

Adding repositories is hardly rocket science...

For stable or 2.1 testing add:
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ etch main

For 3.0 alpha add:
deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ hardy free non-free

no it does not. All I need this thing to do right now is play some winnie the poo and I have to put on my nasa goggles and add repos? WEAK. I absolutely do not have time for this tweaky crap.

I use VLC

Hi Mick, I've had the same problem (can't watch DVD's) with the default installation of Totem, which is totem-gstreamer. I have installed libdvdcss2 1.2.9 from http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ etch main and libc6 2.3.6... from http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ etch main. I don't think they are incompatible as both are etch. I've solved it by installing totem-xine and removing (they seem to be incompatible) totem-gstreamer. I hope this helps. Pablo
