I upgraded jack (109) and ardour (2.5), everything was fine. They both fired up and i toured around the new ardoour with hydrogen and such connected, etc etc. after a couples of days i'm getting this message from jack: 09:27:37.974 Patchbay deactivated. 09:27:37.977 Statistics reset. 09:27:37.995 Startup script... 09:27:37.996 artsshell -q terminate 09:27:37.999 ALSA connection graph change. 09:27:38.415 Startup script terminated with exit status=256. 09:27:38.416 JACK is starting... 09:27:38.417 /usr/bin/jackd -R -p128 -dalsa -r44100 -p128 -n2 -D -Chw:0 -Phw:0 jackd 0.109.2 Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others. jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details JACK compiled with System V SHM support. cannot use real-time scheduling (FIFO at priority 10) [for thread -1210685136, from thread -1210685136] (1: Operation not permitted) cannot create engine 09:27:38.430 JACK was started with PID=4114. 09:27:38.431 JACK was stopped successfully. 09:27:38.432 Post-shutdown script... 09:27:38.432 killall jackd 09:27:38.628 ALSA connection change. jackd: no process killed 09:27:38.840 Post-shutdown script terminated with exit status=256. 09:27:40.635 Could not connect to JACK server as client. - Overall operation failed. - Unable to connect to server. Please check the messages window for more info. The "artsshell -q terminated" is interesting as well as the "ALSA connection change". (don't remember changing anything) how do i begin to troubleshoot this? Like i said it WAS working thne something happened...let the head scratching begin. MiCK

qjackctl changed settings

I have seen my setting change once, I was at the time experimenting with kernels so it's probably unrelated. Do the results of running cat /proc/asound/modules match the settings in qjackctl. Has the realtime checkbox changed? Check /etc/security/limits.conf are ok. $ cat /proc/asound/modules $ sudo gedit /etc/security/limits.conf Do you see any errors when you run: $ dmesg | egrep -i '(audio|sound|snd|linux|alsa)' Cheers! dave

Try starting jack from a terminal(without qjackctl). I remember reading about a bug in qjackctl at the developers corner. Something about a graph redraw. I don't know if thats old news now. Good luck! Timing is Everything!
