Xorg server not working with Intel video board

I've been using 64studio for nearly two years by installing it on an external USB drive and running it with my laptop. Unfortunately I've had to change for a newer laptop, and I'm trying to keep my current installation a do without a full reinstall. I managed to have almost everything running as before (successfully installed ndiswrapper and the driver for my wireless interface), but I'm still running into problems with the video part. So far the only way to use my PC is with the vesa driver, but it doesn't allow me for a 1280x800 resolution. I'm trying to configure it with the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver but it does not work. I even tried to regenerate the xorg.conf file with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but without success. Apparently the driver shared object can be found. I expect the laptop monitor to be on PCI:0:2:0 (while on PCI:0:2:1 I probably have the other --external-- video output). I don't understand if the other errors (VideoRAM too low, ecc.) can preclude the driver to be loaded, but even trying to force the value to something like 64000 the result is the same. Following is some info about my installation. Thanks for the time. Sorry if I screwed up a little bit the formatting of this page. I'm not much used to the markdown syntax. I forgot to say that I had to download and install the xserver-xorg-video-intel by hand (since I wanted to declare the Device as Driver "intel").
