Hi, I'm a little upset bout this post I read on the Debian forrums slamming ALSA, titled "The sorry state of soun on Linux" http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=25116& How can he say this, ALSA is briliant, sound on Linux is better than anything. Hasn't he ever heard of linuxaudio or studio64. I want take a piece outta this guy, but I don't know whole story of OSS and ALSA and figure I should find out before I open my mouth. Has anybody else got an opinion on the matter? Timing is everything!

Interesting that it's the open-source fork of OSS that has survived. Yay! From this article it doesn't sound like OSS integration has been fully tested or trouble-shot, so it's not really a viable option. Linux uses ALSA, like it or loathe it. It took years to get them to take real-time multimedia usage seriously and I don't imagine Linux developers are going to start supporting any other audio architecture any time soon. cheers, tim /|\

Don't worry about it...

We know what we have, and the results speak for themselves. He does not know, and let him run his little circus is peace. Flame wars never helped anyone... Nothing he says will change the state or development of ALSA, Jack or Ardour - Don't fret.

Yes, of course!
