Seeing double

I just wondered if anyone else has ever had this problem. For me, it seems to occur spontaneously about once every 4 or 5 months. What happens is that I boot up one day to find that my launch bar suddenly has two of everything. It happened yesterday and at the moment I have 2 clocks, 2 loudspeaker icons, 2 view panels (the thing that lets you switch between four desktops), 2 launch menus etc etc. Unfortunately, fixing the problem isn't as simple as just removing one instance of everything - because whenever I launch an application, it gets 2 entries on the launch bar - and closing one of them closes both. The only thing I can do is to restore a recent backup of my 64studio partition. However, this is happeneing often enough to be really tedious. Anyone else ever seen it?

Yes - I have to admit that

Yes - I have to admit that every Debian based distro I've ever used has had problems along these lines. Not always this particular problem but something similar. For example, when I was using Ubuntu it would boot up (again, once every 4 or 5 months) with just a blank orange screen and nothing else. Again, restoring an old backup was the only solution. PCLinux gave me similar problems (or maybe it was FreeSpire - I can't remember which) and I subsequently found out that that too was Debian based.... :-(

Strange things happens to the chosen ones... Never seen that before. Is this using 2.1? Cheers, Q
