Hi Fred, Here is the fix for the boot verbose error message you see in red. $ sudo gedit /etc/sysctl.conf Comment out this entry. kernel.maps_protect =1 (like this) #kernel.maps_protect =1 Would you please re-post your sound problem in the 64 Studio 3.0 Beta 3 released (thread). This will keep all the info together regarding the beta3 release. 64studio look to these threads first. Also give details about your PC and "soundcard" etc., Cheers! dave

Thank you for the link on system timer

Hi Dave, Install ok, fast as usual, recognize everything in the machine and peripherics. At boot I see a red "failed" on the right of screen but my eyes were not speed enough, and with dsmeg | more I don't find it ? Boot not so long, and I really like the background picture of this Fender head, let's start ! Launch and set QjackCtrl as usual. It start and says RT 2% Launch Hydrogen and load exemple file. Press start and see modulation on hydrogen master bargraph, but no sound. In Jack sound connection panel it's ok, Hydrogen out connect in System playback. Run alsaconf, but system says "command not found", Run sudo alsaconf, the same. Well, I will check in Synaptic if I see something in relation with alsa, but I'm not really sure of what I'm doing in this area... You know, I prefer to do music !! Oh, there's a kind of orange star on the down panel, it says 8 updates available. Maybe I'll start with that ? If I can say something about eye candy, the animation when you reduce a window is too loud, but it's not important of course, and just my opinion ! See you

System timer resolution & Midi use.

Hi Fred, Take a look at the entry: (near the bottom of the page) What does "System timer resolution is too low" mean? here: I hope this helps. Good luck with your 3.0-beta3 install, looking forward to reading your install report. Cheers! dave.

Hi Dave, To answer your question, the multi boot is between : - 64 Studio 2.1 (except hydrogen and the printer all is ok, but sometimes jack crashes) - Debian 5.0 (Lenny) -with lxde, great DE- plus hardy backports and sid repos (many problems!!!) - That stupid OS that I like to forget (only problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) This night I have dwnld the beta3, and will install it in 3 hours, I'll let you know what I notice just after the fresh install, as you suggest in a post. May I ask a question about the 250Hz VS 1000Hz you talk about ? I know that means 250/1000 times per second, but 250/1000 "what" ??? Thanks for your help in my Linux switching ! Fred

beta 3 - lenny

Hi Fred, Beta 3 is based on "hardy" and has the 29RT (1000hz) kernel installed as default, plus new packages including e.g. rosegarden 1.7.3 & Ardour 2.7. Beta 2 testers should install beta 3 now to avoid kernel upgrade problems. If you are running "lenny" you would have to add the hardy-backports to your sources. This could be problematic as beta 2 (250hz) kernel upgrades to the new kernel (1000hz) have been giving errors. I haven't seen a fix reported yet. Installing the kernel "might" be ok, but I haven't tested it. Your post "beta 3" has thrown me a bit, are you running beta 3 and lenny? I have 64studio 2.1 dist-upgraded to lenny installed using 2.6.26-1-multimedia-686. It works well here and I'm on with compiling it to run at 1000hz. Beta 3 release: Cheers! dave

Hi Dave, I don't know if it's my poor ability to search in Synaptic, or if I dreamed, but have read somewhere in the forum that kernel was in version 29RT, and can't find it in the repo. Did you have an idea for me ? Thank you ! Fred
